911³Ô¹ÏÍø and Peel Regional Police proudly announce their continued collaboration on the summer Youth in Policing Initiative (YIPI).  

The YIPI program, funded by the Ministry of Children, Community and Social Services, and the Peel Regional Police Service Board, is designed to provide opportunities for youth between 15 and 18 years of age from priority populations who reflect the cultural diversity in the Region of Peel, to develop life, job and leadership skills through a teamwork and mentorship approach.  

In 2022, the Peel Regional Police YIPI program expanded to include 911³Ô¹ÏÍø. This collaborative approach proved to be highly successful, with a 60% growth from previous years.  

In 2025, 35 YIPI students have the opportunity to learn about Peel Regional Police and Sheridan as a postsecondary institution. While at Sheridan, the YIPI students will take part in advance standing introductory courses that relate to policing, including Forensic Sciences, Private Security Program and fitness. The 2025 YIPI class will be joined by approximately ten returning YIPI students who will serve as volunteer team leaders for the 2025 class, further developing mentorship and leadership skill sets for youth.    

“Sheridan’s School of Public Safety is proud of our continued partnership with Peel Regional Police to bring the Youth in Policing Initiative to our Davis Campus in Brampton again this summer,” said Rajan Sandhu, Sheridan Interim President and Vice Chancellor. “During the eight weeks of the initiative, Sheridan faculty will support participants through mentorship and instruction in the field of public safety and social justice, which align with the variety of possible careers through Peel Regional Police. We look forward to welcoming youth in our community to our campus to give them a first-hand experience of what a meaningful career in public safety can look like.”

Since forming this collaboration, the number of applications to the YIPI program has surged from 74 to 1180, reflecting a dramatic increase in interest and engagement from youth across the community.

The eight-week Youth in Policing Initiative kicked off on Wednesday, July 2, 2025, at Sheridan's Davis Campus and runs through to Friday, August 22, 2025.
