Full-time Support Staff bargaining update
Updated August 25, 2025
As the Ontario Public Service Employees Union (OPSEU) – the union representing all full-time support staff at all 24 Ontario colleges – and the College Employer Council (CEC) proceed with collective bargaining on a new contract, please refer to the websites of and for information and communications.
Classes are set to resume on Tuesday, September 2. Students are encouraged to register and to prepare for the start of the September term.
Overview
The current collective agreement between the College Employee Council (CEC) and OPSEU, the union representing full-time support staff, expires on August 31, 2025. Earlier this month, union members voted in favor of strike action if a new agreement cannot be reached. A “no-board” report has also been requested, which could allow a legal strike to begin as early as mid-September.
Bargaining between CEC and the union is ongoing. The CEC has proposed mediation-arbitration as a way to resolve differences without disruption.
What does this mean for the Sheridan community?
Classes and academic programming will continue. Faculty, counsellors, librarians, and part-time support staff are not part of this bargaining process.
Some services may be impacted if strike action occurs. Areas such as student services, admissions, registrar functions, technical support, security, facilities, and other administrative operations could experience delays or reduced capacity.
Sheridan is preparing contingency plans to minimize disruption and ensure continuity for students and employees.
Regular updates will be shared with the Sheridan community as negotiations progress.
