Sheridan English for Academic Purposes (EAP) placement testing

Why do I need to complete a placement test?

  • You must submit your valid IELTS (Academic), TOEFL (iBT) or Duolingo score to show us your English skills so that we can put you in the class that is right for you.
  • You only need to take one of these tests.
  • Your placement test results will give us the right level for your English skills in Sheridan's English for Academic Purposes program.
  • Once we review your test results, your offer letter will be issued.

Tips to successfully complete a placement test:

  1. Answer questions to the best of your ability – do not guess answers. The test is NOT pass/fail. This will ensure you are placed in the right class for you.
  2. After completing the test, make sure your test results are sent to Sheridan.

Once Sheridan has received your test results, you will receive an email from Sheridan Admissions in 10–15 business/working days. Your offer letter will have your placement level in Sheridan's EAP program and provide you with your next steps.

Please read this message before you start your test. Your test helps us understand your real English level so we can place you in a class that will help you grow your language skills. You must do the test honestly and by yourself. Do not use help from other people, websites, or tools. You must also show your true English skills.

If you do not follow these rules, there may be serious consequences. You may be removed from the program.

Note: You may be disqualified if you receive a low score and Sheridan Admissions is unable to place you at an appropriate level in the EAP program. In that case, you can take the test again after 3 months. It is recommended that you contact your local school board about English classes or register for LINC or EAP classes from the community before testing again.
