Student Work Placement Program
The Student Work Placement Program (SWPP) is a wage subsidy program that provides postsecondary students paid work experience. (ESDC) works with Employer Delivery Partners to provide student work placements and wage subsidies of up to $5,000.
General Eligibility Requirements
- Employers can hire students in any program
- Students must be Canadian citizens, permanent residents or a person to whom refugee protection has been conferred under the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act
- Provincial and territorial governments are not eligible
- Positions must be net new to qualify (positions over and above what employers hired last year at the same time). Only medium and large businesses (more than 100 employees) will be required to demonstrate incremental (Net new) opportunities; previously this rule applied to all enterprises.

When to Apply
Many SWPP delivery partners accept applications on an ongoing basis until their funding has been fully allocated for the work term. Information on application deadlines or the status of funding availability can be found on each SWPP delivery partner’s website.

Canadian Agricultural Human Resources Council (CAHRC)
The CAHRC supports developing connections between employers in agriculture, postsecondary students and postsecondary institutions through their AGRI Talent program and Growing Opportunities SWPP program.

- Canadian businesses and not-for-profit organizations in the agriculture industry including field crops, primary producers, greenhouse, horticulture, aquaculture, veterinary clinics servicing farm animals/livestock, farm equipment dealerships, input dealers and agriculture-focused media agencies

Canadian Council for Aviation and Aerospace (CCAA)

- Canadian aviation and aerospace companies or Canadian businesses that support the aviation and aerospace industry (position must also support the industry)

Canadian Media Producers Association (CMPA)
The CMPA is Canada’s national trade association for independent English-language media producers. They represent numerous companies and work to support the future of domestic media production and Canadian content.

Cultural Human Resources Council (CHRC)
The CHRC is a national not-for-profit that brings together cultural workers and employers to address training, career development and other human resource issues.

Electricity Human Resources Canada (EHRC)
Electricity Human Resources Canada’s (EHRC) is Canada’s student work placement initiative for the electricity industry, providing financial incentives of up to $7,000 to employers who create new Work-Integrated Learning (WIL) opportunities.
Who can apply? Canadian-owned Companies are eligible if they meet the following criteria:
- Firms whose primary activity is the generation, transmission and distribution of electricity.
- Sector support, including renewables, in any of the following areas: R & D, business development, energy efficiency.
- Firms engaged in the manufacturing of equipment or the provision of services necessary for generation, transmission or distribution.
- Postsecondary institutions are no longer eligible to receive funding.

Magnet is a not-for-profit, digital social innovation platform co-created by Toronto Metropolitan University (formerly Ryerson University) in partnership with the Ontario Chamber of Commerce in 2014.
